Raw steel

Steel has the major advantage of having high values ​​in the fundamental mechanical properties:

  • resistance to forces: modulus of elasticity, elastic limit, mechanical resistance

  • hardness

  • impact resistance (resilience)

Disadvantage: resistance to corrosion

Steel has a very poor resistance to corrosion, but this can be remedied by carrying out surface treatments (zinc plating, bichromating, hot-dip galvanizing, Geomet, etc.).

 

Without surface treatment, there is appearance of red rust which shows the attack of the steel which weakens the part.

With a surface treatment, there is appearance of white rust (before red rust) which shows the attack of the surface coating only.

Raw steel delivered by Screw-express

Raw steel parts can be delivered in 3 forms:

  • greasy / oily

  • oxidized: presence of rust

  • with a sachet of salt in thebox

Oily parts :

 

Parts which come out of manufacture and which undergo oiling in order to reduce the appearance of rust.

Attention → the total absence of rust is not certified by Visserie-Service.



Rusty parts :

 

Parts which come out of manufacture and which undergo degreasing so that they are not greasy.

Caution → the presence of rust can appear very quickly.

Important :

Raw steel parts with a bag of salt in the packaging will be charged more than zinc-plated parts because it is an operation that is carried out manually.

 

For a fairly large quantity, it is preferable to favor zinc plating because the price difference will be very small between raw steel and zinc-plated steel which has the advantage of having non-rusty and non-oily parts.
