There are 2 types of lacquer: powder and liquid.

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a dry, non-caking powder. The major difference between conventional liquid paint and powder coating is that powder coating does not require the use of a solvent to hold the and fillers in liquid suspension form.

The absence of solvent is of economic, environmental and occupational health and safety interest: reduced risk of fire, no respiratory exposure to solvents, but worker protection necessary to avoid inhalation or ingestion powder.

Powder coating is usually applied with an electrostatic gun. For this purpose, the powder paint is electrostatically charged in the gun. The object to be coated being connected to the earth, the particles of charged powder paint are attracted to this object. The object then goes into a baking oven (200°C), where the powder paint begins to melt and then hardens.

The quality of the coating depends on the charge of the particles, their concentration in the cloud and their speed.

The percentage of shine:

The gloss percentage determines whether the part ends up in a more matte or more shiny color.

You can ask for a gloss percentage ranging from 1% to 99%.

1% = very matte

99% = very bright

It can be considered that :

  • 0 to 30% shine = MATTE

  • 30 to 70% shine = SATIN

  • More than 70% shine = SHINY

We offer 2 standards:

  • 30% shine = MATT

  • 80% shine = SHINY

If there is no specification on the order, the lacquering is glossy by default. It is therefore necessary to specify the RAL and the percentage of gloss.

The customer who wants a lacquered part from the Visserie-Service supply, of a color strictly identical to the parts of his design, must provide the brand and the reference of the powder he uses to lacquer his parts. You should know that depending on the brands, for the same percentage of shine, there may be differences because as in all areas there is a tolerance.

Please note that the rendering of a color with a specified gloss percentage is not the same depending on the material and shape of the part.

Indeed, the lacquering of a customer part assembled with a Screws-Service part lacquered with the same percentage of gloss will never have exactly the same color because:

  • Different material.

  • Different shape.

  • Not lacquered at the same time.

The rendering of our lacquers meets a standard which specifies a visual inspection at 3 meters.

The thickness of the powder coating is around 60 to 80 µ.

It is possible to paint steel (galvanized, dichromated, galvanized, etc.) and stainless steel. For a question of aesthetics, we do not lacquer raw steel parts.

We also offer sandblasted lacquering, lacquering which has a slight grain size. This lacquering is available in all RAL colors with 30% gloss, therefore matt lacquering (it is the supplier's powder that imposes this percentage of gloss).

For information, 2 tests are possible to check if it is powder or liquid paint because visual detection is almost impossible.

Scrape the paint with a cutter or rub the paint with acetone, if it peels off or comes off easily, it's liquid paint.
